Electrical Safety Authority

Electrical Safety Authority

The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) is an administrative authority mandated by the Government of Ontario to enhance public electrical safety in the province. As a private, not-for-profit corporation headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario with staff deployed across the province. We are both a safety regulator and advocate.

ESA powers and duties are derived from The Electricity Act and The Safety and Consumer Statutes Administration Act. ESA’s primary activities are: identifying and targeting leading causes of electrical safety risk; ensuring compliance with regulations; promoting awareness, education and training; and collaborating with stakeholders to improve the state of electrical safety in Ontario.

A Master Electrician is a person with recognized education and experience who has been designated a Master Electrician by the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA).
In Ontario, this is a licence issued to an individual who has demonstrated at least 3 years experience in the electrical trade and has successfully passed the 3 hour Master Electrician exam. It is one way to demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge and skill in the field, and it allows the Master Electrician to obtain electrical permits.

What Is The Authorized Contractor Program (ACP)?
It’s a volunteer program developed by the ESA to recognize and reward those Licensed Electrical Contractors and HVAC Installers who consistently do great work in compliance with the Ontario Electrical Code.

ESA encourages customers to use licensed Electrical Contractors, which is more likely to increase your safety and adherence to the Ontario Electrical Code. Look here for more answers to your possible questions.

Evans Electrical Services has achieved and successfully maintained our ACP certificate since 2006.

There are several requirements to be eligible and maintain your ACP: Defect ratio must not exceed 4% File applications for all electrical work Attend New Code training in conjunction with each new OESC release And so much more. Go to ESA to find out more
